At Carter High School, ELA students will:
- read and analyze a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts
- explore the strategies and purpose(s) of the writer
As the student develops his/her abilities to think and read critically, s/he will have multiple opportunities to:
- write in a variety of modes such as expository, analytical and argumentative compositions
- create and sustain an argument, correctly citing primary and secondary sources using MLA formatting
- engage in a variety of writing situations such as journaling, collaborative writing, timed essays, and process papers
- revise to practice the strategies and skills of effective writing (e.g., grammar, structure, syntax, diction, style)
These skills will develop over the course of four years to prepare our students for their college and career goals.
