Spanish

  • Spanish 1 - In this college preparatory course, students are taught to speak, understand, read, and write simple Spanish.  Basic grammar is emphasized.  Oral work is stressed.

    Spanish 2 - This college preparatory course is a continuation of Spanish IP and continues the basic grammar presented in first-year Spanish, expanding with new tenses and expressions.  Spanish will be spoken the majority of the time in the classroom.

    Spanish 2 Spanish Speakers - This is an introductory college preparatory course language course for native speakers of Spanish to develop their fundamental reading and writing skills.  This course will prepare students to continue in Spanish III P for Spanish Speakers.

    Spanish 3 - A thorough review of Spanish I and II are given.  Students are taught to master the essentials of grammar and syntax.  Much conversation is stressed.  Introduction of Spanish literature is included.

    Spanish 3 Spanish Speakers - This college-prep course offers native speakers of Spanish an opportunity to study grammar in depth through literature.  Students will improve critical reading, writing, thinking, listening, and speaking skills through literature and current events.

    Spanish 4 - This college-prep course provides extensive oral practice, vocabulary building, reading comprehension, and development of communicative skills through exercises and activities. Students will be able to read Spanish newspapers and magazines with ease.

    AP Spanish Language 4 - This AP college prep course includes an intensive study of the literature of various authors and the refinement of grammar and oral fluency skills. Critical opinion and judgment is expressed using oral and written Spanish.

    AP Spanish Literature 5 - This college-prep course promotes extensive oral practice, vocabulary building, reading comprehension, and development of communicative skills. Using contemporary journalistic prose, students will read Spanish newspapers and magazines.

German

  • German 1 - This introductory course teaches the basic structure and vocabulary in the German language, as well as culture, in order to build a sound structure for language learning.  

    German 2 - This course is designed to further develop world language skills learned in German 1 and further prepare students to live in a global society.  Grammar and vocabulary exercises will be emphasized, as well as a basic understanding of German culture.  

    German 3 - This course is designed to reinforce the world language skills learned in German 1 and 2. Emphasis will be placed on cultural awareness, communication skills, increasing vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking. 

    German 3 Honors - This course prepares students to take AP German in their 4th year.  German will be used as exclusively as possible (90% plus) during instructional time, both by the teacher and students, as well as in the authentic readings. Grammar and vocabulary will be reviewed and new, more complex structures will be introduced.

    German 4 - This course is designed to extend and reinforce the world language skills learned in German 1 through 3. Emphasis will be placed on cultural awareness, communication skills, increasing vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  German will be the primary language used in the classroom.  

    AP German - The AP class will be conducted almost exclusively in the German language.   Various books, texts, mystery readers, podcasts, newscasts, newspapers, and authentic resources from the internet will be used in the classroom to improve reading and comprehension skills.
