    Welcome to Simpson Elementary’s Safety Procedures page. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Here are the procedures we follow to ensure a secure and prepared environment for any emergency situations.

    Emergency Procedures

    Active Shooter/Lockdown

    • Call 911 immediately.
    • Run: Get into a building, lock doors, barricade doors, turn off lights, and silence cell phones.
    • Prepare to Defend: Be ready to protect yourself using any available item.
    • Remain in Place: Wait for an all-clear signal from authorities before evacuating.

     

    Earthquake

    • Drop, Cover, and Hold:
      • Take cover under a desk or table, or against an interior wall until the shaking stops.
      • After Shaking Stops: Check yourself and those around you for injuries.
      • Evacuate if directed by emergency personnel or authorized staff.

     

    Bomb Threat

    • If You Receive a Bomb Threat:
      • Stay calm and pay attention.
      • Gather vital information.
      • Call 911 and provide this information.
    • Important: If instructed to evacuate, follow school evacuation procedures:
      • Check your area for anything unusual.
      • Take personal belongings.
      • Leave doors and windows open.
      • Avoid elevators, use stairs.
      • Move far away from the building.

     

    Fire/Evacuation

    • Call 911 and activate the nearest fire alarm.

    • Proceed to Nearest Exit:

      • Use stairs only, avoid elevators.
      • Assist those with disabilities.
      • Gather in a designated area and account for individuals.
      • Re-enter only when authorized.

    • Fire Extinguisher Instructions:

      • P: Pull the safety pin.
      • A: Aim nozzle at the base of the fire.
      • S: Squeeze the handle.
      • S: Sweep from side to side.

     

    Medical Emergency

    • Call 911 or Safety Control Dispatch at (909) 820-6892.
    • Remain Calm: Comfort the injured or sick.
    • Provide Details: Share the location and type of emergency.
    • Follow the directions from Emergency Personnel.
    • Only move the victim if it’s safe to do so.

     

    Chemical/Hazardous Spill

    • Call 911: Describe the type and size of the spill.
    • Evacuate: Leave the area or building.
    • Wait for clearance from Emergency Personnel.
    • Contact RUSD Risk Management at (909) 820-7700 ext. 2110.

     

    Suicide Threat or Attempt

    • If Threat Is Imminent: Call 911 without delay.
    • Actions to Take:
      1. Clear the area of others.
      2. Stay calm and listen.
      3. Engage the individual in conversation.
      4. Remain with the individual.
      5. Notify staff members like the principal, counselor, or nurse.
