Daily Home Screening

It  will  be  very  important  that  you  go  through  the  symptom  screener  prior  to  your student's arrival each day. If any symptoms are present before they arrive at school, it is very important that you keep your student at home. 

Parents: Please check your child for the following symptoms each morning before your child leaves for school.

If your child has any of the following symptoms, that indicates a possible illness that may decrease the student’s  ability  to learn and also put them at risk for spreading illness to others. 

-Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher

-Sore Throat

-New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for students with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline)

-Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain

-New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever

 Illness Prevention

We have implemented many measures over the past several weeks to ensure that students and staff have the resources they need to stay healthy including:

•         Increased access to hand washing and sanitizing
•         Student will be given cloth face covering or face mask (if      needed)
•         Physical distancing in the classroom and in common areas
•         Cohorting may be used to limited the number of people your student interacts with

The school campus will remain closed to parents and visitors. Any parent coming onto campus will need to check in via phone at the front office. Parents, please also ensure that you wear a face covering and adhere to physical distancing when coming onto campus.

Starting school is a big step in a child’s life.  To ensure a good start, it is important that each child has a physical examination, dental check-up and is current with their immunizations.

 

Health Screenings

---

Vision, hearing, scoliosis, dental and growth screenings are provided to all Rialto Unified School District students as required by state law (grade level specific).  All screenings are conducted by one of our RUSD Licensed Registered Nurses.

 

Kindergarten Physical Exam

---

California’s Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) law requires every child to have a physical examination before entering school in kindergarten.  Parents/guardians are required to present a report of examination or a waiver statement to the school within 18 months prior to entry into first grade or within 90 days of entry into first grade.  Obtain the form here or from the school’s health office.

 

Students who have not met this requirement by the appropriate date may be excluded from school attendance.  Parents/guardians needing assistance meeting the requirements should call your school for additional information. You are encouraged to complete this exam at kindergarten entry to make sure your child is healthy and ready to learn.

 

K-1 Dental Exam (OHA)

California law, Education Code Section 49452.8, requires an Oral Health Assessment (dental check-up) by a licensed California dental health professional for children entering public school for the first time (at kindergarten or first grade).  The Oral Health Assessment must be completed and returned to the school by May 31 of that first school year.  Assessments that have occurred within the 12 months before your child enters school also meet this requirement.  Obtain the form here (Spanish) or from the school’s health office.

 

Parents/guardians may sign a waiver of this requirement, which is available at the school.  There is no penalty of exclusion if this requirement is not met.  If you cannot take your child for this required assessment, please contact the school nurse or health clerk at your child’s school health office.  You can also contact your local County Social Services office for more information on preventive care services for eligible low-income children and adults.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

California State law requires that all students under age 18 years, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, be immunized against certain diseases unless they are exempt for medical reasons.  At the time of registration, proof of immunization compliance or exemption is required to enroll them in school.

 

Information on obtaining a permanent medical exemption for your child is available at Health Services or your the Health Office at your child's school.

 

T-dap Information

Effective July 1, 2011, a new immunization requirement takes effect for student attending 7th through 12th.  The state is now requiring that students be immunized against pertussis, or whooping cough to attend school. By State Law, students will not be allowed to attend school without this immunization.

 

Immunization Clinics

Rialto Unified School District offers immunization support from time to time and will send out notices to families when we have clinics available for our families.

The district participates in the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), a countywide computer system that keeps track of immunizations (shots).

Overview

---

Home Hospital is a temporary alternative to school instruction, available to students who cannot leave their homes to attend school because of serious medical conditions and treatment as deemed appropriate.  Behavioral concerns should be at your child's school to ensure appropriate support is implemented.

Students who are eligible for Home Hospital are assigned to an RUSD Certificated Teacher.

 

Requirements

---

Parents must request a Home Hospital application from your child's school in order to initiate the application process. 

Please fill out the parent portion of the application before submitting the forms to your child's medical provider.

Your child's medical provider must fill out their portion of the Home Hospital application.  Then return it to you to submit to your child's School Nurse.  The medical provider must specify what the child's health condition is and the duration of time that they will remain in Home Hospital.

Please note, a referral cannot be less than forty-five (45) days. A new referral is required for services to continue past the end date listed on the initial request.

Overview

Health Services is provides training for Rialto Unified School District employees whose job description requires CPR and/or First Aid certifications. Classes are taught by certified American Red Cross instructors.

There is no cost to Rialto USD employees whose job description requires CPR/First Aid certification.  If you are an employee who's position does not require that you get certified, you must pay a $29.00 fee which is due prior to the scheduled class. The only forms of payment we accept are exact cash or check. 

Please note: Employees who register for a CPR/First Aid class and fail to attend the training will be required to pay a $29.00 fee for the next class at the time of registration (non-refundable from Health Services). 

CPR and First Aid certification through the American Red Cross is valid for 2 years from the date of completion. 

All classes are held at the Health Services Training Room located at 815 S. Willow Avenue, on Thursdays from 4:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. (see class schedule below).
